Liverpool have won their last five Premiership games and secured qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League while not conceding a goal in their past seven games.
During this impressive run Steven Gerrard has been playing on the right side of midfield rather than in his preferred position in the centre but Rafa Benitez says the switch has played a major part in the Reds' recent run.
"Steve is a player who can play all positions. He likes to play in the centre because he receives more balls and plays more of the game, but at the moment he has freedom on the right," said Benitez.
"He is the captain and I talk with him about my ideas. He was a key player for us last season but now I think he is more responsible - not because I tell him he has to be but because he plays that way. I think he's more happy."
