Pressure grows for hapless Houllier

Another capacity Anfield crowd was stunned into silence after just two minutes of action when former Blackpool striker Brett Ormerod calmly slotted home to give the Saints a lead they would never lose throughout another frustrating clash.

Swedish defender Michael Svensson added a second after the break before Emile Heskey gave the Reds vain hope of sharing the spoils when he pounced on a spilled Steven Gerrard shot.

The disappointing defeat, which leaves Liverpool languishing in ninth place after sixteen league games, will only add to the mounting pressure being placed upon a beleaguered Gerard Houllier.
