PSG are hoping that the transfer of Nicolas Anelka to Liverpool is completed within the next 10 days.

The French outfit have confirmed what the player said earlier in the week in that a transfer fee has been agreed.

'Advantage Liverpool' - who are keeping their cards close to their chest at the moment.

Boss is trying to avoid Anelka questions
It's quite clear that Liverpool will fall back on the Anelka deal if they can't find a cheaper alternative in Kanoute or even Kluivert.

The boss is still trying to sign Cisse and won't give up just yet but time is running out. PSG want the matter resolved shortly and Anelka is hanging on a piece of string wondering what is happening while those who tow the line, either on the pay-roll or through other mutually beneficial agreements, try to suggest that the Anelka brothers are playing up when they are currently not doing so.

PSG's vice-president Alain Cayzac said in Le Parisien: "We have reached an agreement with Liverpool. I hope it will be definitely signed in the next 10 days so that everyone will be able to go on holiday."

Kop Talk sources at Anfield insist that if the deal falls through it will be because Liverpool have closed the door on the transfer and not because of the Anelkas.

Speaking to us over lunch today our source with close links to the management, said: "Nic and his brothers are desperate to stay in Liverpool.

"It is rumoured that they have even lowered the weekly wages demand to try and close the deal soon because they feel Houllier is trying to stitch them up.

"If the deal collapses, the Anelka brothers will be used as an excuse because those creating the smokescreens know the fans are so gullible.

"Houllier will do what he thinks is right for Liverpool and right now he's acting very secretly trying to avoid questions over the Anelka situation that is developing."
