The goalless draw leaves Liverpool with a lot to do if they are to bypass Everton into fourth place in the Premiership and qualification for the Champions League.

"It was a bad game but if you play against a hardworking team who like to play counter-attack and don't give you a lot of space, if you don't win some balls it's more difficult," said the Liverpool boss after the game.

"Blackburn have done their job well and tried to score in counter-attack, but worked hard in defence.

"If defenders play well the goalkeeper has an easier job. We tried to challenge him but they worked hard in defence. We tried to play with wingers and Milan running but we didn't have the space.

"We know the Everton game is an important one. The idea is the same - to go for winning and after this game we are seven points behind so it's necessary to win."
