Rafa hails Carra

Carragher was named in Steve McClaren's England squad yesterday and Rafa Benitez believes the Liverpool vice-captain's form should earn him a regular place in the starting line up.

"It's clear he's playing well. In the three years since I've been here Carra has been a key player for us," said the Reds' boss.

"He's always focussed on football and always talking football. He works hard in every training session and is always so keen to learn.

"His influence rubs off on those around him and players like him are so good for team spirit.

"For me, he's one of the best in the country and I'd like to see him playing for England because he deserves it.

"But, of course, that decision is down to Steve McClaren and if he's not selected then I suppose that's good for us because it means he'll get a rest!"
