Liverpool kept their first clean sheet of the new season in the Philips Stadion after holding PSV Eindhoven to a 0-0 draw in their Champions League opener. Rafa Benitez declared himself happy with the point and praised his team's performance.

"The team worked really really hard. You could see the midfielders and the strikers supporting the defenders. It was our idea to keep a clean sheet and to go forward, and we had enough clear chances to maybe have scored one goal," said the Liverpool boss.

"At the end we have one point but I think we created enough chances to win and the one at the end was the most clear. But after playing seven games in 21 days, with a lot of players coming back from international duty, I think we showed we can play and it's not bad.

"In the Champions League you never know but, with the experience and quality of PSV, if you can draw here and win at home you are in a good position – but you need to win at home."
