The Spanish striker is doubtful for Sunday's derby, but the manager hopes he will be able to call upon his star man.

"He is training with the fitness coach now and we will test him tomorrow to see if he is available for this weekend," said the Liverpool boss.

"We will see tomorrow and we will decide because its an important massive game so if we can push him and he is keen to do it then we can do it.

"Its always important to win and especially when its a derby so I think that for all the people in the city its important. We want to win and we will try to win because of the position in the table. It's the first option that we have to improve and be higher in the table.

"These games are so important, but at the moment it would be a lift for us, and also for them, but we have condense and I think we can win.

"You have to do your job and my job is trying to give advice to players if necessary, give support to players if necessary then you have to stay calm and analyse things because the passion and emotion will be there.

"It will be a physical game, everybody will be working so hard to do the right things, the quality we have in the team and then try to do our job."
