The Reds' defence has been strangely out of sorts this season but Benitez believes hard work in training is now putting that problem right in matches.
"Yes, we are definitely much better. Still we can improve because we were really good in the last two or three seasons," said the boss.
"Improving the defence needs hard work. But when you do your job every day on the pitch and in every training session, you see an improvement. That's what we're doing at the moment."
