Liverpool remained top of the league by beating Blackburn Rovers 3-1 and Rafa Benitez admitted yesterday was all about the result after drawing the last two league games.

"Clearly it was an important three points for us," said the boss.

"In the first half we had plenty of possession but didn't create many chances apart from the one Yossi had.

"In the second half we had more space and more options. We got the first goal which gave us confidence and Yossi got us another one which was important.

"When we conceded a late goal it put us under a bit of pressure but fortunately Steven scored right at the end for us.

"Clearly it is important to see the strikers scoring goals but if the midfielders can score goals like today it is better for us.

"We are in a very good position and we want to stay there. We will continue to work hard and try and play well."
