The monkey taunts at both the Under 21's game and the full international between Spain and England were unacceptable, although the Spanish authorities and media have tried to play down the incidents.

"It is a very bad situation for everybody and for the Spanish people," said the Liverpool boss. "I know it is a small group but as somebody from Madrid it is something that shocked me even more.

"I have not seen anything like that from the Spanish supporters in a lot of years.

"The Spanish government and FIFA must do something but, as a manager, the only thing I can say is that I condemn this situation and we don't want it to happen again."
