A march in support of the manager before the game was backed up by vocal support inside the ground as the fans tried to show Goerge Gillett and Tom Hicks just how much the manager means to them.

"I want to say thank you to all of our fans," he said. "I think they deserve this today, so this is for them.

"I think it was a very tough game, they are a good team and have quality and ability so we were under pressure, particularly in the first half but in the second half when we scored the second goal it was easier but they were always a very good team.

"They played with three strikers and three midfielders and they were always pressing so it was difficult to pass the ball.

"I think we have confidence. We needed to win three games in a row. We've won two and we need to win the third one and we know everyone can go forward.

"The supporters are always magnificent for us. I am really proud to be here. They know I want to stay and fight for my club for improving everything.

"I don't have any personal problem with the owners. I just want to improve everything. I think they want the best for the club and me too, so we'll talk and try to go forward and progress."
