Rafa tipping Kirkland to be England no.1

Although Dudek started the season as Benitez' number one choice, the Reds boss has given Kirkland a boost by claiming he has the ability to become his country's regular keeper for years to come.

He said: "I'm sure he'll be England's number one because he's a very good goalkeeper. We have two good goalkeepers here and it is right that they fight for the position.

"It is good for England that he stays here at Liverpool because he will improve. He works very, very hard. I am sure that in the future he will be the number one in the international team."

Kirkland may be available for selection against Monaco on Wednesday.
