"When I arrived at Valencia, people said it was difficult to win the league in the first season," he said. "I won't say it will be the same here but I will fight hard.
"We need time but perhaps we have a surprise for the supporters.
"Already I can sense the supporters are happy and we are determined to give them plenty to be happy about in the future.
"We have to work hard but we have to improve because we want to be at the top. I see this as a big challenge for me and the staff.
"I promise the fans we will work extremely hard to do everything right to develop a competitive team that is determined to win every competition.
"It's an important, exciting time for me and I am very enthusiastic about what lies ahead."
