Rafa wants home win

Liverpool have failed to beat Manchester United at Anfield in the Premiership since a 3-1 win in the 2001/2 season, although they did knock them out of the FA Cup at Anfield in 2006. It's a hoodoo Rafa Benitez wants to see ended.

"United are a top side and they have a lot of players with quality, but we want to beat them and we have confidence because we will be at Anfield," said the Reds boss.

"It is an important game. You are calling this weekend the grand slam [with Chelsea and Arsenal also playing] but it is only December and it's not a game that will decide the league title.

"We have a lot of respect for them but we will try to beat them. I remember the game last season when we were much better than them but they won 1-0 with a goal in the last minute from a set piece. Sometimes it's the small details that can make a big difference.

"We are closer to the top and we have eight more points than we did at this stage last season."
