The Spanish midfielder is hoping to be selected for the game, but Rafael Benitez won't risk him unless he is satisfied with his fitness.

"We need to see tomorrow," said the Liverpool boss. "He was working with the physios and maybe tomorrow he can do some exercises and we can see what shape he is in.

"At this moment I do not know if he will be fit, but I will have a much clearer idea tomorrow. It depends what the doctors say whether we leave a decision on Xabi until the last minute.

"But I also have confident in Momo, Stevie and Didi, and if it would be a risk with Xabi then maybe we would go with the other players."
