Rafa's warning to Prem

Torres was excellent in the 3-2 win over West Ham on Saturday, scoring twice and coming close on numerous other occasions. Benitez said it was an excellent performance from his striker but believes there is even better to come.

"We had some names of players and we knew we needed his type of player for England, someone who was young and keen to learn and Torres was the perfect answer," said the boss.

"Clearly he wanted to come here, he wanted to improve he wanted to play in a top side. Atletico Madrid was his old club, he was there for years but now we have him at out club and he is fantastic.

"Speaking the language was not a problem because we were signing some Spanish players like Reina and others like Alonso.

"He was very good at trying to settle down quickly. When you talk to him you realise what dreams he has and how hard he was working for them.

"In Spain Torres was very good in the air, but the difference here in England is that all the centre backs are all 1.92 metres so it is not easy to win in the air.

"He is good in the air but of course it depends on the quality of the crosses. But if the delivery is good then he will score goals.

"He clearly has pace and mobility and he can use these things. He has to improve some things but I am not going to say what they are.

"He is good with his back to goal, not easy for a striker. This week we were talking about what he was doing before and his last two games against Debrecen and this one he has been very good with his movement.

"He was getting into very good positions so he was always a threat for the defence.

"Kuyt, Gerrard and Torres they understand each other very well and when you have that quality like Gerrard he can always find Torres in very good position to score.

"That is part of our success and if Kuyt, Yossi and the others score then it will make it more difficult still to defend against.

"Of course all strikers want to score goals and Torres is no different he is one of those players who score a lot but he wants more.

"He wants to be an important player for Liverpool, he has the mentality and the strength that you need if you want to improve.

"It is too early to talk about him winning the Golden Boot this season, he has to keep playing at this level and we will see what happens.

"Our Spanish players were in the Confederations Cup and the other players were training for 19 days before they came back to train with us late.

"We had to be careful with them and Torres was top scorer. We were pushing him a bit but now with all the prevention work with the physio we are taking care of him."
