Glasgow Rangers have denied that they have agreed to sell their captain *Barry Ferguson following recent speculation that he's Anfield bound.

Kop Talk revealed months ago that the talented midfielder was a Liverpool target and since then (Ed: but not because of us!) he's grown into an even better player putting in various man-of-the-match performances.

Ferguson is seen as an ideal replacement for Gary McAllister - similar in style and ability - and several other Premiership clubs are believed to be interested in him, with some camps tipping Arsenal to beat Liverpool for his signature in the summer.

We can't tell you if he's Anfield bound but we can tell you he remains a target - the transfer fee will play a huge part in any negotiations because Liverpool will be reluctant to pay in excess of £10million.

Kop Talk understands that Rangers and Liverpool had informal discussions regarding the player's availability some time ago and that Rangers gave the green light for a deal if the Reds could match the asking fee.

However, Rangers manager Alex McLeish continues to rubbish the talk surrounding his player.

"You can never say never about anything but nothing has been decreed at this club player-wise, either coming or going," said McLeish. "It wouldn't surprise me if he is attracting interest from big clubs but this is a huge club as well."
