Record-breaker Owen aiming for UEFA glory

The 23-year-old's fine header, which earnt the Reds a valuable draw from a difficult tie away at a hard-working Olimpija Ljubljana outfit, was his 21st goal in Europe for the Anfield club - placing him ahead of 20-goal Liverpool legend, Ian Rush.

While Owen is understandably delighted to add yet another achievement to his already glittering career, he insists that the club must focus on claiming another record by winning the UEFA Cup for an unprecedented fourth time.

Owen said: "I am delighted to have the record now. I would have preferred us to have stayed in Europe a bit longer last year so I could have got it then, but I am happy to finally have it now. I know Ian Rush will be pleased for me.

"I knew about the record before the game but as much as I am proud to have it, the main thing was that it contributed to us getting a decent result. Records are always there to be broken but results are more important.

"We all know the best place to play is the Champions League but there's no question of us lacking motivation to win this UEFA Cup competition.

"We have got to concentrate on this competition. We have already got the experience of winning it and after our result in Slovenia we fancy our chances of getting through into the next round."
