Michael Shields Jnr was sentenced to 15 years in a Bulgarian jail for the attempted murder of a waiter after the Champions League final in May, a crime which someone else has claimed responsibility for.

And now Shields' father has said he is determined to free his son.

Mr Shields said, "We've had so many ups and downs but I'm not going to give up. I'm going to fight with every breath in my body, even if it's my last breath. Even if it puts me six foot under, I have promised I will get my boy home to his mother."

And Jamie Carragher also pledged his support for Shields, by dedicating his first goal in six years to the Liverpool fan.

Graham Sankey admitted it was he who committed the crime, and Bulgarian officials are now thought to be in contact with Merseyside police to arrest the 20 year old. It is thought Shields could then be freed on bail.
