Redknapp has praised Gerrard as the Sky Sports pundit believes Gerrard is finally showing his Liverpool form for England.
"There is nothing that this lad cannot do. He can run, he can pass, he can cross and, boy, he can shoot. He middled that volley for his ninth England goal," said Redknapp.
"I always expected David Beckham to return to the England squad some time in the future, but if Gerrard carries on like this, there is no need for Beckham. Gerrard is a better player.
"He suffered more than most under Sven Goran Eriksson. Asked to play the holding role in central midfield, it stopped his natural desire to drive forward. He's such a clever player, with an instinctive understanding of the game.
"When you get to know him, he's bright and humorous and he lives for the game. He's a thoroughly good professional.
"On the pitch, he provokes chances. He's aggressive, wins the ball, and creates forward movement by working hard and forcing the issue by driving at defenders at speed. He's a hell of a player, one of the best in the world.
"Now he's becoming England's playmaker, just as he is for Liverpool."
