Liverpool will represent Europe in the 2005 FIFA Club World Championship in Japan after winning the European Cup back in May. The Reds will face either Australians Sydney FC or Deportivo Saprissa from Costa Rica in the semi-final on December 15th with the 3rd/4th place play-off taking place on the 17th or the final on the 18th.

Rafa Benitez has promised Liverpool fans that the team will not be treating this competition as a couple of glorified friendlies but will be going all out to win.

He said: "We have collected a lot of videos of the other teams and we are trying to have them all watched as much as possible before the competition begins. For sure, this is a competition we want to win. For Liverpool, if you enter any competition you must only think about one thing and that is winning. We are not going there for any other reason but to bring another trophy to Anfield."
