Reds at full-strength for Bucharest test

With the ominous visit of Manchester United coming just three days after a difficult trip to Bucharest, it had been thought that the genial Frenchman may have considered withdrawing more of his star performers after it was revealed that Michael Owen is to be rested for the European clash.

Houllier has, however, made it clear that Bucharest - themselves former European champions in 1987 - will be treated with the utmost respect by all at Anfield.

Houllier said: I will be picking the side I believe is the strongest to get us a result. We have a very good away record in Europe over the last three years. Only Valencia and Bayer Leverkusen have beaten us when we've travelled abroad.

"I think that shows how disciplined and tactically mature we have been. There is always a slightly different approach tactically when you play away in Europe, but I like our style of play at the moment. We are averaging 15 shots a game on target. I want to keep that.

"We will be aiming to score, to get that vital away goal you need to succeed in Europe. The first leg of any European tie is crucial, it dictates how you play the second leg and can give you confidence.

"We know we have a big game on Sunday but we have been in this situation before. Last season we had an important UEFA Cup tie with Auxerre just a few days before the Worthington Cup final. We weren't affected by it and did our job professionally. It will be the same again."

Houllier added: "The players always enjoy European games. Bucharest will be tough because they are a very good team and they knocked Southampton out in the last round."
