Reds beat Blues- again

Former reserve team player and regular top scorer in various Masters 5-a-side tournaments John Durnin scored the winner for Kenny Dalglish's side in the 90th minute.

An impressive crowd of 32,947 turned up at Anfield to raise money for the Marina Dalglish Appeal and also to see the Reds once again beat the Blues and earn the bragging rights on Merseyside.

Liverpool had ten of the eleven players from the 1986 final with '86 subsitute Steve McMahon taking Craig Johnstone's place. The Reds were also able to call on the likes of John Barnes, Alan Kennedy, Ray Houghton and goal machine John Durnin from the bench.

There weren't many chances in the first half, the only real chance of note coming after three minutes when Dave Watson headed a Jan Molby cross against his own crossbar with Bobby Mimms beaten.

There were more chances in the second half, the best of them naturally falling to Liverpool as Molby began to pull the strings alongside McMahon in the centre of midfield and Kenny Dalglish creating chances up front.

Liverpool had chances to score but Dalglish, Barnes and Ian Rush were all denied by some good goalkeeping from Bobby Mimms. Just when it looked like Everton had done enough to earn the draw however, Durnin got on the end of a four man move and calmly slotted home the winner at the Kop end.
