Reds beat Lincoln

Liverpool agreed a friendly with Lincoln as part of the deal that brought Jack Hobbs to Anfield and last night the former Imp was given the captain's armband as the Reds visited his former club.

The Reds were excellent in the first half with Robbie Fowler and Mark Gonzales excelling. Fabio Aurellio also impressed the 10,000+ crowd with some of his passing.

It was Mark Gonzales who gave the Reds the lead when he ran onto a perfect through ball from Aurelio and fired home after 19 minutes. Liverpool doubled their lead just before the break when Besian Idrizaj was quickest to react when a Godwin Antwi header came back off the bar.

New reserve team coach Gary Ablett rang the changes in the second half when Fowler, Aurelio, Gonzales and Jan Kromkamp were all replaced.

The second half saw the return of Stephen Warnock and Neil Mellor after injury. Mellor was quickly involved when he hit the post and also saw two other decent chances saved by the Lincoln keeper.

Lincoln pulled a goal back on 65 minutes but Liverpool's lead was never in doubt as the Reds continued to dominate.
