Reds beaten

The Reds lost 1-0 at home to Marseille in a Champions League group game last night. It was the worst performance since the tail end of Gerard Houllier's reign.

Liverpool were unable to string three passes together all night and their failure in the final third was to prove costly after 77 minutes. Momo Sissoko dithered in midfield and allowed Mathieu Valbuena to disposses him, exchange passes and hammer home a 25 yard belter.

The goal fired the Reds into action but even then they were unable to break Marseille down. Yossi Benayoun had a good chance pushed round the post and a scramble in the box saw Sami Hyypia and Fernando Torres have shots cleared off the line but other than that it was a forgettable display by Rafael Benitez's side.
