Houllier said: "I was not surprised but I was pleased with the way he settled immediately into the team. He showed some brilliant passing at times, particularly the pass he made to Vignal at the end and also the through ball to Emile Heskey.
"It's too early to say he'll be able to come into the team straight away because he is learning. It takes time and that's why we have brought them here this season because the earlier they come the quicker they will be ready."
