Reds boss delighted with win

The hard-fought 2-1 win, which was the Reds third in succession, leaves the Merseyside club just three points adrift of leaders Arsenal in what is sure to be a closely-contested race for the Premiership title.

Houllier said: "I want to congratulate the players because there was a bit of pressure on us before the game. We hadn't won here for a long time and we've beaten a good team because they were difficult to break and they worked extremely hard and were very disciplined.

"They were on a high after a good win against Leeds, but I thought we deserved the win and the score should have been more in our favour.

"They had only one good chance and they took it, which gave us a bit of a scare at the end.

"It was a well-deserved win. The creativity and the movement forward in the first half was outstanding.

"Since Tottenham we have been playing different football, with a different confidence. It could have been more."
