Reds boss denies style change

Impressive away victories at Everton and Blackburn Rovers have led fans and critics alike to heap praise on a new-look Reds team but Houllier insists that he has always put an emphasis on attacking play during his time at the club.

"We have always been attacking and we have always created chances. I know statistics belong to the past but last season only Manchester United had more shots on goal than us," revealed Houllier.

"There were games last season in which we should have scored five but we just couldn't find the finishing touch. We weren't clinical enough in front of goal, but the chances were there.

"This season we are already at the top of the table in terms of the team with most shots. We have had 90 shots in five games, and considering three of them were away from home it's not a bad record. That's an average of 18 shots per game.

"The arrival of Harry Kewell has helped us this season. He has scored in the last couple of games and has been involved in some of our other goals. With every game that goes by his combination play with the other midfielders is getting better and we are getting the rewards."
