The Reds dynamic pre-season form has left Moores encouraged enough to announce that this season could finally be the year that Liverpool claim the English championship for a record nineteenth time.

Moores said: "I'm like any fan and when I go into the beginning of the season I'm very positive we're going to win things. To me we have such a strong squad that we have a good chance of winning things.

"Hopefully it's going to be the one that's eluded me and the club for so long, and that's the championship.

"Le Tallec has really impressed me and I think Bruno Cheyrou has also come on leaps and bounds this pre-season.

"The two lads who didn't come with us (to the Far East), Harry Kewell and Steve Finnan, are also quality players.

"Of course, we all built ourselves up last time so I don't want to go completely overboard, but with the quality signings we've made, and with the lads from last summer showing their best form, I think we have a better squad now.

"We've got strength in depth now that we haven't had before. The future looks bright."
