Reds close to top form says Finnan

Liverpool have had an indifferent start to the season but have still qualified for the quarter finals of the Carling Cup and the last sixteen of the Champions League. Steve Finnan says the Reds are returning to form and can climb up the Premiership table.

"We're a couple of months into the season and obviously we want to be up the table," said the defender.

"But we're into the last 16 in Europe and we're in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup, so there's so much to play for.

"I don't think we're too far away from challenging for the league. Last year we went on a couple of runs – 10 games I think we won.

"We've got a stronger squad but it's not worked out so far in terms of consistent results. But I certainly believe in this squad. It's just getting a few results together, especially away from home.

"There have been games where we have played well, so we know the ability is there. We've just got to do it consistently."
