The Reds made a quick-fire start to the game, with both strikes from Michael Owen and an Andy Todd own-goal coming in a frenetic opening 25 minutes as Blackburn's hopes of vital Premiership points were easily dismissed.

Graeme Souness's side trudged off the Anfield pitch lucky only to see a late Emile Heskey goal added to the scoresheet as Gerard Houllier's men produced their most encouraging display in recent months.
