Liverpool have been handed a boost with the news that French defender Gregory Vignal has returned to training at Melwood.

Vignal limped off during a reserve game earlier this week and there were fears he had suffered a setback with his foot which he broke last year. Fortunately the pain has now eased and the youngster can continue trying to regain his fitness.

Confirming the good news, acting boss Phil Thompson said: "He felt a pain in the foot where he had the injury and we had to be sure there were no problems. He had an x-ray and everything is fine so we're very pleased about that."
