Reds held

The Reds were unable to break down a resolute Manchester City defence at the City of Manchester Stadium yesterday afternoon as they were held to a goalless draw.

City created a few chances in the first half but Jamie Carragher was there every time to throw himself in front of the ball and make a decisive block. Carragher's interventions meant Pepe Reina had a quiet afternoon in the Liverpool goal.

At the other end Liverpool created chances with Fabio Aurelio coming closest before the break. One thirty yard shot went narrowly past the post while another was palmed over the bar by Joe Hart.

Yossi Benayoun then had a great chance a minute before the interval but again the shot went narrowly past the post.

Liverpool upped the tempo in the second half but they found City centre-backs Richard Dunne and Micah Richards in commanding form.

Dirk Kuyt came close to winning it near the end as did Benayoun but both times Dunne was there to clear the ball and keep Man City's clean sheet and unbeaten home record intact.
