Reds in the press

Owen exhibits a ton
Back in the depths of winter, there must have been times when the end of the season could not come quickly enough for Liverpool and a misfiring Michael Owen. Now it is ending all too soon. With an exhibition of finishing as clinical as they come, England's leading striker claimed four goals and reached 100 Premiership goals, in just 183 matches, in the process, making it 19 Premiership goals for the season, 28 in total. Milan Baros's brace made it an even more emphatic victory. More important for Liverpool than personal achievements, their fourth successive win, achieved with an awesome display of passing and movement, admittedly against an uncharacteristically accommodating West Bromwich Albion, pushes them closer to a Champions League place.

Four for Owen as the Reds hit six
West Bromwich Albion, already relegated, had salt worked into their wounds by a Liverpool team which well before the end was simply scoring at will, cruising through a virtually non-existent defence. Michael Owen, whirling like a red-jerseyed dervish, was simply irresistible, scoring four goals — the second his 100th in the Premiership — and combining lethally with the young Czech, Milan Baros. Their delighted manager, Gerard Houllier, described the partnership as “brilliant”.

Rampant Owen in fourth dimension
Michael Owen proved just how crucial he is to Liverpool's Champions League aspirations as he single–handedly demolished a helpless West Brom with four goals – taking his Premier League career tally to 102.

Owen hits century mark in rout
Michael Owen scored four goals to rout West Bromwich, take his Premiership tally past 100 and keep Liverpool in the hunt for a place in the Champions League next season. Owen started the day on 98 top-flight goals, became only the 10th player to make it past the 100 mark in the Premiership and finished the afternoon one ahead of Matt Le Tissier in that exclusive list. Small wonder Liverpool want to tie him to a long-term contract this summer, even though he still has two years of his deal to run.
