The Toffeemen struck through a Lee Carsley strike mid way through the second half, which left Chris Kirkland unsighted. The tame shot eluded the Liverpool keeper, and gave David Moyes' team yet another one nil victory, lifting the team to their highest position ever in the Premiership.

Despite a late surge from Liverpool, including a clearance off the line with seconds to go, Everton managed to hang on, leaving the Reds to rue a spate of missed chances and good saves from keeper Martyn.
