Liverpool have been linked with Newcastle United defender Olivier Bernard who is out of contract in the summer.

One report today claims that reports in the north east have linked the Reds with Bernard but none of the local radio stations or the local press (The Chronicle) have suggested anything involving Liverpool.

Yesterday Newcastle boss Bobby Robson claimed the 22-year-old had been 'tapped-up' and that he intends to report the offending club.

"We know that he's been tapped by another Premiership club and we will be reporting that Premiership club," said Robson.

"We will not tell you who the club is. But we know that Bernard has been tapped, so we will report that club."

The former Lyon player is included in the Newcastle squad that is preparing to take on the Blue noses.

He's made 10 appearances so far this season, 4 as a sub, and scored 2 goals. His last game was on March 6th when he came on as a sub for Distin in the 3-0 defeat by Liverpool.

Distin's conversion from centre-back to left-back in recent months has limited his chances.
