Reds lose meaningless game

A much changed Liverpool team lost their final Champions League group stage game 3-2 to Galatasary last night. The result was irrelevant however as the Reds had already wrapped up first place in the group.

Liverpool took the lead through Robbie Fowler, his first European goal for the club since a qualifier against FC Haka in 2001, but two goals in four minutes put Galatasary in charge of the game before half time.

Galatasary added a third in the second half before Robbie Fowler narrowed the gap in the final minute when he headed home a Jermaine Pennant cross.

Although the result was disappointing, the game was played like a pre-season friendly and there won't be too many inquests into the team's performance.
