Reds lose out at Cardiff showdown

An unlucky own goal from Steven Gerrard gave Chelsea the lifeline they needed in the 79th minute, after John Arne Riise had given the Reds an early lead after only a minute, with a sublime volley from a Fernando Morientes cross.

The Reds had chances to win the match however, with both Gerrard and Igor Biscan missing good opportunities.

However, constant Chelsea pressure during extra time finally resulted in a Drogba goal, and their lead was furthered by Kezman. A late Liverpool goal from Nunez gave the travelling Reds hope, but it was not to be.

However, Chelsea boss Mourinho was not on the pitch to join celebrations, having been sent from to the stands after constant criticism aimed at official Steve Bennet. The Chelsea manager had also taunted Reds fans when the equaliser was scored.
