The highly-rated 24-year-old Spaniard has earnt the attention of his compatriot Benitez with a number of accomplished displays in La Liga and could be set for a £2.8m transfer that would see the much-maligned El-Hadji Diouf make the opposite trip to Malaga.

According to Spanish newspapers the player, who can operate as both a right-back and a central defender, will jet off to America to join his future team-mates on their pre-season tour of the States.

Josemi said: Malaga will make some money in what is a great deal, and I go to one of the top clubs in Europe. And above all the trainer is a Spaniard like Benitez, which was partly a reason for me as well.

"I am going to work at a top club. It is what I have always done since I have been a soccer player."

What do you think of Josemi?
