Reds move for Morientes

The move comes just days after the Real Madrid striker spoke of his respect for Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, and with a host of players blocking Morientes from first team action at the Bernabeu, it seems a move to Anfield could finally be on the cards for the highly rated Spaniard.

With Djibril Cisse out of action until May with a broken leg, Rafa Benitez has been on the lookout for a striker to fill the void, and Benitez believes that in Morientes, he has his man.

However, it is believed the Reds have been told to double the offer to around £7m, with Anfield bosses expected to table an improved bid shortly. French side Monaco are also thought to be interested in the player, although no formal offers have so far been made.
