As expected, the likes of Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard and Sami Hyypia are missing from the starting line-up, but Gerard Houllier has named Chris Kirkland, Steve Finnan, Markus Babbel and Czech striker Milan Baros in his team for the match.
Carl Medjani, the highly-rated young French defender signed recently from St Ettiene, may also make his first appearance in a Liverpool shirt from the substitutes bench.
The absence of Jerzy Dudek, Emile Heskey and Igor Biscan from the team will be seen by many as a strong indication that all three will start Sunday's Premiership opener with Chelsea at Anfield.
