Reds planned early assault

With a 1-0 lead from the away leg many commentators expected the Reds to sit back and invite Real Madrid onto them yesterday. Instead, Liverpool attacked the Spanish champions from the start and their early pressure paid off.

"They were expecting us to play very deep and on the counter attack," said Rafael Benitez.

"But we played a different game and tried to put them under pressure from the beginning. Then we were on top of them and I think we could have scored more.

"We knew this game would be very tight and very difficult. We showed that we can play in different ways, it showed we are a very good team."
