The game will give Harry Kewell the opportunity to regain full fitness for the start of the season.

Steve Finnan is also likely to play 45 minutes as he improves his fitness level, although Gerard Houllier has already admitted that the Irish defender won't be ready for the opening game with Chelsea in two weeks time.

"We will be taking it very seriously," confirmed Houllier. "It is our penultimate game before the new season. We still have a home friendly against Valencia.

"We are looking forward to playing on a good surface at Aberdeen and in front of a big crowd.

"We know we have a fan base in Aberdeen, too. We will field a strong team. But I don't want to burn them out so I will use a lot of players.

"I think it will be very competitive. It is Aberdeen's last game before their season starts so it will be a benchmark for them."
