Reds progress

The Reds beat Leeds 2-1 at Elland Road last night to win their third round tie thanks to goals from Thomas Ince and Lauri Dalla Valle.

"I thought it was a very good performance and we acquitted ourselves very well," coach Hugh McAuley told the club's official website.

"We played some excellent football and kept the ball very well. I thought we controlled the game for long periods, and during the 90 minutes we created enough chances to have won by more than 2-1.

"It was a great goal from Tom and he can do that. We played him in the position behind the striker and he got into some very good positions for us.

"He does score goals and that free-kick was a special one for him in his first game in the FA Youth Cup. He will remember that one.

"Dalla Valla had four or five good chances and was a little bit unlucky not to score before he got our winner. To his credit he always keeps going and he put the chance away to win us the game and that for me is the hallmark of a very good striker.

"I also thought our two centre backs Joe Kennedy and Daniel Ayala defended resolutely all game and won their fare share of headers.

"Andre Wisdom, who is only 16, did very well in his first game for us at right back. He competed very well and used the ball sensibly, while Christopher Buchtmann gave us an attacking option down the left hand side."
