It had been reported in the Finish press that the Ajax man was merely on-loan to the Dutch club from the Reds. Quotes attributed to the 32-year-old only served to add to the intrigue surrounding the player's future.
Litmanen was reported to have said: "My contract in Ajax is a two-year loan deal from Liverpool, in the form of one year plus another. We will look at my situation sometime during the end of the season."
A spokesman for the Merseyside club, however, has made it clear that the rumours are "rubbish".
