Arsenal have expressed an interest in Downing, but have yet to make an official approach to Aston Villa for the player. They may not bother as Downing has made it known that he favours a move to Anfield.
There were rumours that Downing's transfer could be completed as early as today. but with both Kenny Dalglish and Damien Comolli in China that may not be the case.
