Reds set to miss out on Boumsong

Reports in France suggest that the 23-year-old is prepared to reject the Reds in order to secure a move to Le Championatt rivals Marseille. The French giants currently occupy the third Champions League spot in their country and is thought this fact may prove vital as Liverpool can only offer UEFA Cup football.

The powerful defender is also said to believe that Marseille will offer a greater guarantee of first team football. Boumsong, of course, would face the unenviable task of displacing either Sami Hyypia or Stephane Henchoz in the Liverpool defence.

Gerard Houllier will meet Auxerre manager Guy Roux later this month in an attempt to lure both Boumsong and Djibril Cisse to Anfield. At this point, it seems that Cisse is the only viable option for the Reds.
