The Norwegian international proved to be a revelation in his first season for the Reds - scoring eight goals and adding much need width with his surging runs down the left. After a mediocre start to this season many felt that the 22-year-old would struggle to match the feats of his debut campaign . In recent weeks, though, Riise believes he has proved his Premiership ability.

Riise said: "People said it would be harder for me this year but I haven't felt too much different to last season.

"I have to admit I wasn't happy with the start I made to this season. I scored in some games but I didn't think I was performing as well as I could have been.

"I've not played as well as last year but over the last six to eight weeks I've been back to form again and I hope I can keep on improving and get better and better over the last few weeks of the season.

"I think it was Michael Owen who said you don't reach your peak until you get to the age of about 27 so I've got quite a few years of improvement to go yet."
