With little chance of first team football in the near future Whitbread has been told he can join another club for the remainder of the season.
"It's frustrating but I can't sit on the bench and expect them to be dropped for me, I've got to earn it," he admitted.
"I've got two years left on my contract. I would never rule a move out. If it's a choice between regular first-team football or staying in Liverpool's reserves, then I'll definitely go out on loan.
"But my main concern is making Liverpool's first team."
