Reds to make transfer decision

Liverpool will assess the fitness of their entire squad when they report back for pre-season training to see if they need to bring Salif Diao to the club in July or instead delay his arrival until December.

The Sedan midfielder has agreed a pre-contract with the Reds and undergone a medical and passed it (according to him) but Gerard Houllier is unsure as to when to bring him in.

"No contract has been signed yet but a pre-contract agreement has been completed," said Sedan Director Jean-Marc Pelissier.

"Diao might stay with us, it will depend on Liverpool's situation. Houllier still has a few players in the World Cup like Dietmar Hamann for example or injured players such as Danny Murphy.

"If when they start training the team is pretty much at full strength then Diao will only join in December.

"We hope to know as early as possible because if Salif leaves in July then we will have to find a replacement for him."
